Benchmark problems as per from the AISC 2010 2017 Specification for Structural Buildings(commentary, commentary page 16.1-276 291) have been reproduced in ETABS. The intention of AISC Benchmark benchmark problems are intended is to indicate if whether or not an analysis program software is capable of performing a rigorous second order analysis, including analyses which include P-Δ and P-δ effects. The results below show that ETABS is able to capture effect.
ETABS captures both sources of nonlinear geometry with great accuracy both effects, clearly whiting well within the 3% and 5% limitation of AISC. In each case the column element has been divided in two elements. Also, the problems below are intended to demonstrate the capabilities of the program only, this does not mean this will be the most practical or efficient method of designing compression elements for stability.

This capability is validated in the benchmark-problem results, shown below. Meshing the column may be required to improve accuracy of P-δ effect in pinned condition cases and for axial loads close to buckling.
