Question

It appears that applying tendon loads for tendons modeled as loads in staged construction works only when the tendon load is applied to group ALL. It seems to have no effect when it is applied to group or individual elements affected by the load.

Answer

When applied as loads, the tendons do not exist as elements in the model. The loads are applied to joints, frames, shells, solids, etc. You can control the loading by groups that include the loaded elements. That is why group ALL works. There are three choices:

  1. Model tendons as elements,
  2. Determine the elements loaded by the tendons and create groups to control the loading - this may be difficult,
  3. Create separate load patterns for the different stages and apply the tendon loads in the corresponding load patterns. The apply the appropriate load pattern for a given stage to group ALL.
