The echoid.exe is a command line utility used to determine the locking code for a given machine.

Usage

The echoid.exe utility is located in the installation directory of any CSI program or in its "License Manager" subdirectory (see section Echoid.exe file location below for additional details).

To use the utility, simply run it As Administrator (this is very important!), on the target machine and obtain the locking code by reading its output.

The utility will provide two locking codes as follows:

  • Locking code 1, starting with 4- is a Disk ID locking code.
  • Locking code 2, starting with 80- is a Computer ID (USB key) locking code.

If you see a 1E-xxxxx locking code, that means either echoid was not run as an admin or that it is being run from inside a zipped folder. If you see a 0-0 locking code, it means that the locking code could not be determined. This can occur for locking code 2 when the USB key is not plugged in or when the USB key driver has not been installed properly. Please refer to the Computer ID (CID) key not recognized page for troubleshooting instructions.

Important considerations

  • If using this utility for a remote server, you must use a remote desktop session and run the utility within the remote session. Otherwise (if you, for example, run the utility on a network drive) the locking code will be incorrectly obtained for your local machine and not the server.
  • On certain Windows systems with User Account Control (UAC), the utility needs to be run "As Administrator" in order to obtain the correct locking code. The locking code may be different and will not be correct when run as a regular user.

Echoid.exe file location

The location of the echoid.exe utility depends on the installation type and version of the Sentinel RMS License Manager as described below.

Location for Sentinel RMS License Manager prior to version 8.5

  • Standalone installation: Echoid.exe is located in application folder
  • Network installation:
    • If Network installation was run on license server machine, Echoid.exe is located in the application subfolder "License Manager"
    • If Network installation was not run on license server machine, then Echoid.exe needs to be copied there.
