Report displacements in local axis

Here is an elevation view of a 6” diameter pipe run from ground (Z=0) to X=20 ft. and Z=12 ft. There is an anchor at the base and a 4-way guide at the top joint enabling the pipe to displace in its axial direction. We assigned a 400F thermal load to it in order generate displacement.

   

Using the Pipe displacements table, CSiPlant reports local axis pipe displacements at default 9 stations along the length. Highlighted below are results from the last station, the end point, with a local U1 (axial) deflection of .8291 inches with 0 displacements in the local 2 and 3 directions because of the guide located at that point. This kind of output results can be quite useful when working with skewed piping or pipelines that don’t align with global axes.
